Tourists travelling through the far north of WA will enjoy taking a detour off the main route to visit the isolated township of Wyndham. An important attraction is the Five Rivers Lookout on Mt Bastian from which you can see the five rivers, Durack River, Forrest River, King River, Ord River and Pentecost River flowing into the Cambridge Gulf. There is a Big Crocodile monument in the main street of Wyndam, serving as a reminder that there are likely to be many saltwater crocodiles in the local waterways. The Wyndham Crocodile Farm is the safest place for viewing crocodiles.
Wyndham is actually two towns - Wyndham Port and Wyndham Three Mile - a few kilometres apart. Wyndham Port has a Tourist Information Centre and Post Office Museum. A popular attraction at Wyndham Three Mile is the classic outdoor cinema with deck chair seating. Parry's Bird Sanctuary is an attraction for the bird lovers or they can try doing some birdwatching at Marlgu Billabong. Another pretty area to visit is the quiet waterhole oasis called The Grotto. Accommodation choices are limited but there are some hotels, a caravan park and some farmstay options.
