PILBARA
A region with lots of Aboriginal history…

The Pilbara is a beautiful region to explore on a travelling holiday. The area covers some wonderful national parks, mining towns, pristine coastline, stunning landscapes and wildflowers. Karratha is the main town catering for mine workers. They hold an annual festival called Fenaclng Festival, the name derived from the chemical abbreviations. Follow the Jaburara Heritage Trail and find the significant aboriginal sites with shell middens and carvings. The port town of Dampier also has aboriginal rock engravings and you can take a tour to see the sights.

Other towns to explore on your travels are Roebourne, Cossack, Wickham, Point Samson and Cape Lambert. Take the turn off to visit the beautiful Millstream-Chichester National Park. Nearby is the Karijini National Park - well worth a visit for its famous gorges. If you are interested in visiting the hottest town in Australia it is Marble Bar, south east of Port Headland. Here you will find the Comet Gold Mine, a museum and tourist centre offering mine tours and gemstone displays.
