NULLARBOR PLAIN
Flat, dead flat and hot too!

The Nullarbor Plain is a remote barren landscape stretching along the southern coast of WA and SA. The Eyre Highway runs through the southern section and is bitumen all the way and well signposted. It is important to carry sufficient water if attempting the crossing in a private car. The Trans Australia Railway is considered the better alternative for many people wishing to cross the Nullarbor and you can take your car with you on the train. Norseman is the town at the western end of the highway, known for gold prospecting and gem fossicking.

Other towns you will pass through on your eastward journey are Balladonia, Caiguna and Cocklebiddy. These towns can provide accommodation, petrol and supplies. The Cocklebiddy Caves are 5 km from the settlement and are the site of the deepest cave dive in the world. You will then pass through Madura, Mundrabilla and Eucla where you can see more of the Nullarbor Caves. The settlement of Border Village marks the end of the WA section of the highway. There are quarantine inspections at each end of the journey as certain fresh foods and animal products are restricted.
