MERREDIN
Historically a pioneers town…

The town of Merredin is ideally situated in the centre of the eastern wheat belt and is the largest regional centre in the region. It used to be a stopping place on the way to the goldfields and is rich in history. The excellent Merredin Railway Museum is run by the Historical Society and is a re-creation of the old station. It has a working windmill, an 1897 G117 steam engine, a signal tower to climb and other displays including historical collections relating to pioneer women.

The Merredin Military Museum features a large collection of restored military vehicles & equipment from World War I & II, Korea & Vietnam. Walk or drive the heritage trail to see the towns' historical buildings including the Post Office, the Town Hall and the Cummins Theatre.

The C.B.H. Grain Transfer Terminal is the largest horizontal wheat storage facility in the Southern Hemisphere and can be inspected with a group by appointment. Take a drive to the Railway Dam and Merredin Peak for a picnic. The Country Nostalgia Gallery showcases the work of 47 artists and craft people. Book a lovely wildflower tour including morning tea, departing from the Caravan Park. Merredin accommodation is limited to several hotels and motels and the caravan park.

Merredin is 259 km east of Perth by way of Northam on the Great Eastern Highway.
