Kununurra is on the Ord River and is known for its ecosystem of rivers, wetlands and lakes. The lookout at Kelly's Knob gives visitors a spectacular view over the region. Mirima Hidden Valley National Park is 2 km from the town centre and has unusual rock formations, an abundance of wildlife, boab trees and three lovely walking trails. Lake Argyle, 70 km upstream of the town, is a huge reserve of water and you can take a boat cruise on the Lake. The Argyle Diamond Mine is open to visitors and offers conducted tours.

Birdwatching is a popular activity at the bird breeding ground of Lily Creek Lagoon and fishing is also extremely popular in the local waterways but beware of the crocodiles. From Kununurra you can book several different types of sightseeing tours to explore the Kimberley. These include fishing charters, 4WD tours, canoeing trips, scenic flights and coach trips to a variety of destinations. Accommodation in Kununurra and the surrounding areas is offered in caravan parks, backpacker lodges, motels, farmstays and guesthouses.

Kununurra is in the Kimberley, halfway between Broome and Darwin.
