HALLS CREEK
Australia's first gold mining town...

Halls Creek was Western Australia's first gold mining town. There are two townships - Halls Creek and Old Halls Creek, 15 km away. The town had to move with the highway as it relies on the tourist trade. Old Halls Creek has some interesting historic ruins and is popular with gold fossickers. There is a caravan park and a restaurant. To see the natural feature called the China Wall, take the Duncan Road towards Old Halls Creek. It is a beautiful formation of white quartz looking like the Great Wall of China. Continue on to Caroline Pool, a popular swimming spot in the gorge. There are other swimming spots at Palm Springs and Sawpit Gorge.

Book a tour to see the amazing Wolfe Creek Crater, a meteorite crater 853 metres across. Purnululu National Park and the Bungle Bungles are located several hours' drive to the north east of Halls Creek and a 4WD vehicle is essential. It is best to go with a tour group. The striped rocky mounds are very impressive, as is the aboriginal rock art, caves and chasms.

Marella Gorge is a picturesque spot with deep pools suitable for fishing and swimming. It is on Nicholson Station and permission must be obtained from the station manager before entering the area. Halls Creek has limited accommodation choices in a few motels, hotels, lodge, cabins and caravan park.

Location
Halls Creek is located near the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu National Park) and is 365 km from Kununurra.
