TORQUAY
The surfing capital of Australia

Torquay is known as the 'Surf Capital of Australia'. There are many great beaches, both protected and surf beaches, including the famous Bells Beach. The surfing culture of the town is evidenced in the number of surf shops, surfboard and surfwear manufacturers and the local cafes with surfing decor. Surfworld Australia Surfing Museum features surfing memorabilia, surfing movies and photography, a surf board machine and more. Bells Beach is the site of the annual Rip Curl Pro and Sunsmart Surfing Classic. Fishing, cycling and sailing are other popular pastimes in the Torquay area.

The town has some art and craft shops, potteries and galleries to explore. Tiger Moth World and Adventure Park offer scenic joy flights over the Twelve Apostles. Wine lovers will enjoy visiting Minya Winery and Mount Duneed Winery. The Surf Coast Walk is a 27 km stretch from Jan Juc to Angahook Lorne State Park. It is well sign-posted and can be walked in sections. Backpackers and surfers are catered for in the local backpacker hostels and caravan parks. Families may choose their holiday accommodation from the selection of units, cottages, motels, beach houses and bed and breadfasts.
