Horsham is on the flat plains of the Wimmera district, with the Wimmera River flowing through it. It is the centre of a farming region and has a number of national parks nearby. Some features of the town are the Horsham Botanic Gardens, the Horsham Art Gallery and the Wimmera Wool Factory. The scenic river banks have some lovely picnic spots, walking tracks and fishing spots. The four Wimmera Lakes are also popular for fishing. They are located south east of Horsham and are stocked with redfin, trout, golden perch and Murray cod. Mt Arapiles is the world famous rock climbers' paradise, with around 2000 climbs to conquer. It is 20 km from Horsham.
Rocklands Reservoir is another great spot for fishing, waterskiing, sailing, swimming, boating and camping. It is situated beside Black Range State Park which permits bush camping in some area. The Park features walking trails, masses of wildflowers and aboriginal rock art. Some annual events held in Horsham are the Spring Garden Festival held in October and the Kanamaroo Rock 'N' Roll Festival in December. Accommodation is offered in a good selection of hotels, motels, farm stays and caravan parks.
