A historical town, once a gold mining hub…


Bendigo was once a booming gold-mining town and this is reflected in the opulent 19th century architecture around the city. Take a self-guided walking tour with audio player and map to view the heritage buildings and monuments. To learn about Bendigo's mining history, join an underground or surface tour of Central Deborah Gold Mine, or hop aboard Bendigo's talking tram. The city has a rich Chinese legacy from the days of the many Chinese miners, and you can visit the Golden Dragon Museum and Gardens and the Chinese Joss House. The Bendigo Art Gallery is a fine regional gallery with artworks by many well-known Australian artists.

The famous Bendigo Pottery is open to visitors seven days a week. Other attractions to explore include the Dja Dja Aboriginal Association Museum, the Discovery Science & Technology Centre, Bendigo Goldfields Experience, Living Wings and Things Wildlife Attraction, Memorial Military Museum Complex and Sweenies Creek Pottery. A number of local wineries have cellar door sales and some have cheeses as well. Bushwalkers will enjoy a trip to Kamarooka State Park, particularly in spring for the wildflowers. Accommodation is offered mostly in the local motels, hotels and caravan parks.
