APOLLO BAY
On the Great Ocean Road

Apollo Bay is a pretty seaside town on the Great Ocean Road, accessible from Melbourne. Commercial fishing is a major industry and tourists enjoy a visit to the pier when the fishing fleet is in to watch the activities and purchase some of the fresh catch. The beaches are lovely for swimming, surfing and beach walks. Attractions to visit include Old Cable Station Museum, Bass Strait Shell Museum, Tanbryn Gallery, Cape Otway Lightstation and Marengo Reefs Marine Sanctuary. Try hang-gliding or horse riding, or go up to Mariner’s Lookout for a spectacular view.

Book a fascinating glowworm tour, discover the Barham Paradise Scenic Reserve and Marriners Falls and walk the local bushwalking trails. There are a number of refurbished old pubs and cafes in the town as well as an assortment of gift shops, galleries and teahouses. A regular foreshore market is the place for local arts, crafts and fresh produce. Local accommodation varies from campsites, caravan parks and backpacker hostels, to motels, cottages, holiday houses and units.
