FLINDERS ISLAND
A beautiful island destination...

Flinders Island is a popular destination for people who enjoy fishing, diving and bushwalking. Regular flights operate from Launceston and Melbourne. There are some good rock fishing spots, as well as beach fishing, and Lady Barron is a large fishing port. The scuba diving spots are on the north and western sides of the island. The main towns on the island are Whitemark and Lady Barron, the only two places where you can buy petrol. Other small settlements are at Emita and Killiecrankie.

The most adventurous walk is the hike to the top of Mt Strzelecki, which is about 10 km south of Whitemark. Bird watchers also come to the island to see the many migratory birds which rest there. The rookeries of the shearwaters are on many of the nearby islands. Don't forget to pay a visit to Emita Museum to learn the tragic history of the island. Book your accommodation in one of the local farmstays, cottages, holiday apartments, bed and breakfasts or caravan parks.
