CRADLE MOUNTAIN
World Heritage listed. Breathtaking wilderness!

Bushwalkers and nature lovers will be thrilled with the spectacular scenery of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. It is part of Tasmania's World Heritage area and has 25 major peaks including Cradle Mountain and Mount Ossa. The NPWS Information Centre will provide details of the walking trails in the park. There are some very long walks which take days and empty cabins are provided along the way. Experienced walkers only should attempt these walks and must register with the ranger.

There are also plenty of short walks for day trippers, usually of a couple of hours. You can visit Crater Lake, Mount Campbell, Hansons Peak, Twisted Lakes, Lake Rodway, Lake Lilla or the Ballroom Forest. At Cradle Valley there is a rainforest boardwalk. At Cradle Mountain Lodge you can see some of the native animals - Tasmanian devils, possums, pademelons and Bennet's wallabies. Choose your accommodation from the local caravan parks, mountain lodges, cottages, cabins or camping grounds.
