BRUNY ISLAND

A fun beachside destination…

Bruny Island is a popular day-tripper destination with easy access by vehicular ferry. The north and south parts of the island are connected by a narrow area called 'The Neck'. The main town is Adventure Bay, with other tiny settlements at Lunawanna and Alonnah. There are some good surfing beaches on the island and the Bruny Island Surf Classic is held each year. Visit Cape Bruny Lighthouse on the south island and try some of the scenic walks.

The Bligh Museum of Pacific Exploration will inform you of the history of the area and there are some Memorials to look for around Adventure Bay. Labillardiere State Reserve has a profusion of wildflowers, giant trees in the forests and native flora and fauna of southern Tasmania. There is plenty of accommodation on the island and you can book from Kettering. Choose from cottages, holiday apartments, guesthouses, farm retreats, hostels and caravan parks.
