PORT PIRIE
An industrial & mining city…

The port city of Port Pirie is an industrial city dominated by the silver, lead and zinc smelters. Grain and other rural produce is shipped through the port as well as metals. Start your tour of the city at the Port Pirie Regional Tourism and Arts Centre where you can get a Heritage Walk brochure and inspect the Regional Art Gallery. The National Trust Historic and Folk Museum is located in a combination of buildings - the old Customs House, old Police Station and old Railway Station. Follow the heritage trail to see other historic buildings such as Carn Brae with its stained glass windows.

Take a day trip to Wilpena Pound in the Flinders National Park and enjoy magnificent scenery, wildlife spotting and long or short walking trails. The waterways of Spencer Gulf provide great opportunities for fishing, boating and water sports. Port Pirie holds a Festival of Country Music in September or October each year and the Italian community holds a Blessing of the Fleet in September. Accommodation is offered in the city's motels, hotels, backpackers and caravan parks.

Location
Port Pirie is 92 km from Port Augusta, on the eastern shore of Spencer Gulf.
