Kingscote is the largest town on Kangaroo Island and is the centre for shopping and tourism. It is situated on the shore of beautiful Nepean Bay and the best spot for swimming is the Tidal Pool near the jetty. You can also drive to Emu Bay for a swim. There is a large commercial fishing fleet based at Kingscote and you can sample the local fresh seafood in a number of good local cafes and restaurants. Visit Hope Cottage Museum to learn the history of the island and also visit Island Pure, a sheep dairy and cheese factory.
Have a look around the sandstone and clay cliffs in front of the town and you might find the nests of the delightful Little Penguins. From the top of the cliffs there are excellent views over the town, the bay and Western Cove. Full and half day tours of the island depart from Kingscote as well as boat cruises. Other activities on offer include fishing, diving, sailing, golf, lawn bowls, ice skating, walking tours and wildlife observation. Stay in a motel, hotel, holiday apartment, cottage, retreat, cabin or camping ground.
