Take a wine tasting tour…

The Coonawarra region is famous for grape growing and wine producing. Along the 7 km distance from Coonawarra to Penola there are 21 wineries, many of which have wine tasting and cellar door sales. The most well-known of these would be Wynns Coonawarra Estate which is open seven days. A number of festivals and events are held in the area each year including Coonawarra After Dark, Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival, Coonawarra Cellar Dwellers and Coonawarra Wine Tasting Roadshow.

The town of Penola is also a pilgrimage site for devotees of Australia's first saint, Mary MacKillop. You can visit Mary MacKillop's first schoolhouse and the Interpretive Centre next door where there are displays on the early history and life of Mary MacKillop. Take a stroll around the town to see all the other historic buildings. Coonawarra and Penola offer accommodation in pretty cottages, motels, lodges and homesteads.
