The Barossa Valley region is famous for its wine production, with about 50 wineries to choose from. It is close enough to Adelaide to reach as a day trip. A number of great festivals are held there each year including the German Oompah Fest, Barossa Under the Stars, Barossa Vintage Festival and the Barossa Music Festival. The major towns in the area are Tanunda, Nuriootpa and Angaston. Near Tanunda you will find the Kaiser Stuhl Conservation Park, a great place for bird watching. Also visit the Barossa Historical Museum and the Sculpture Park at Mengler Hill.
Nuriootpa is home to some famous-name wineries, quaint historic German cottages and an off-road cycle track. At Angaston, drop in to the Bethany Art Gallery to see the local arts and crafts and visit the grand Collingrove Homestead which is open to the public. The town of Lyndoch has the Lyndoch Lavender Farm, helicopter joy flights and the Barossa Reservoir and Whispering Wall. Other towns to explore are Gawler and Williamstown. There are some lovely accommodation choices in the Valley, including log cabins, resorts, lodges, bed and breakfasts, elegant manors, country houses and retreats.
