The provincial city of Toowoomba is known as the 'Garden City' and holds its annual Carnival of Flowers in September. There are more than 150 public parks and gardens which put on a spectacular show in spring. A popular vantage point for visitors is Picnic Point Lookout which has spectacular views over the Lockyer Valley, graded walks along the range escarpment and a lovely garden setting for a picnic.
Garden lovers will enjoy a visit to Queens Park and the beautiful Botanical Gardens. Some internationally themed gardens of interest are the University of Southern Queensland's Japanese Gardens, the Wetlands of the World and the New Zealand themed park at Lake Annand.
Take a drive around the city to see the numerous historic buildings, following the brochure put out by the National Trust. Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery is a must for art lovers. The Cobb & Co Museum in Lindsay St traces the history of horse drawn transportation in Australia.
For a different view of the city or surrounding countryside, try a Toowoomba Trike Tour for one or two passengers in the back seat of a motorised trike. Accommodation in Toowoomba is offered in an excellent selection of motels, hotels, cottages, guesthouses, homestays, mountain retreats and caravan parks.
