North and South Stradbroke Islands are popular holiday destinations for a quiet, getaway holiday or weekend. North Stradbroke is the larger and has settlements at Point Lookout, Dunwich and Amity Point. It is naturally a great spot for water sports, with surfing beaches on the northern side and quiet water on the inland side for swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and fishing. Whales can be spotted from Point Lookout during the winter season. There are some lovely walking trails through the national park which will lead you to Myora Springs, Blue Lake, Brown Lake, Turquoise Lagoon or Keyhole Lake. Join a 4WD adventure tour which offers sand boarding and water sports. Ferries depart daily from the mainland.
Accommodation on North 'Straddie' is offered in a variety of campsites, hostels, cabins and self contained accommodation. South Stradbroke Island is accessed from the Gold Coast at Runaway Bay Marina by launch, by seaplane from Paradise Waters, by water taxi or day tour. There are two resorts, a camping ground and holiday homes. The island has 22 km of open beaches, a diversity of birdlife, butterflies and native fauna. Resort activities include an Aboriginal Cultural performance, patrolled beach swimming, lawn bowls, tennis, cycling, putting, a sprint track, rock climbing, canoeing, windsurfing, sailing, parasailing and surf fishing.
