MORETON ISLAND
Go swimming with dolphin!

Moreton Island is a large sand island known for its high sand dunes, forests, lakes and lagoons. The main resort is Tangalooma which is known for its dolphin feeding. Other activities for tourists are snorkelling, diving, fishing, swimming and sliding down the sand dunes (sand toboganning). Visit for a day trip or book a longer holiday break. There is a vehicular ferry which runs daily to the island. The other settlements on Moreton are Bulwer, Cowan Cowan and Kooringal. The area is popular with 4 wheel drivers as there are a number of 4WD trails. Fishing is by far the most common activity and there are a number of camping areas to accommodate people having a fishing getaway.

The island is a national park and has some great walking trails, however you should take a compass, map, water and first aid kit as walkers have been known to become lost. There is a host of birdlife to look for and wildflowers in the spring. A visit to the spectacular Blue Lagoon is a must and also have a look at Perched Lakes, Window Lakes, Honeyeater Lake and Jabiru Lake. In season, humpback whales can be seen gliding past and many dolphins and dugongs are seen in the ocean. There are holiday houses and flats at the settlements, resort accommodation at Tangalooma or camping grounds.

Moreton lies to the east of Brisbane, north of Stradbroke Island.
