Hervey Bay has become a prime location for whale watching during the migration season from July to November. Many cruise boats leave from Urangan daily to take tourists on whale-watching expeditions around the bay. Hervey Bay is the main access point for visiting Fraser Island which can be reached by air, vehicular ferry or cruise boat. The main areas of Hervey Bay are Pialba, Scarness, Torquay, Urangan and Urraween. Tourist attractions include Hervey Bay Nature World, Neptune's Reef World, and Vic Hislop's Great White Shark Expo. There is also a historical museum.
