GYMPIE
An old gold mining town...


Gympie is the centre of the Mary River Valley agricultural district and is an old gold mining town. The Gympie Gold and Mining Museum will inform you of the mining history of the region. Also worth a visit is the WoodWorks Forestry and Timber Museum, one of the finest working museums in Australia. Major annual events in the region include the Gympie Show in May, the National Country Music Muster in August, the Goldrush Festival in October, Cooloola Seafood and Leisure Festival in June, Kilkivan Great Horse Ride in April and the Rainbow Beach Fishing Classic in July.

Rotaract Park is a large attractive park with a lake, beautiful gardens and a statue in memory of the gold miners from the gold rush days. From Gympie, head towards the coast to Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island. South of Gympie is the town of Nambour, home of the Big Pineapple. Gympie has a good selection of motels, hotels and caravan parks.

Gympie is a major city of the Cooloola Region, on the Bruce Highway.
