Green Island is mostly frequented by day trippers from Cairns, eager to view the coral of the Great Barrier Reef. Fast catamarans leave from Cairns Harbour throughout the day and the trip takes about 50 mins. There is an underwater observatory for coral-viewing without getting wet or the option of a trip in a glass-bottom boat. Snorkelling and scuba diving are the best ways to see the wonders of the colourful corals, tropical fish and mysterious marine creatures. It is possible to walk all the way around the tiny island in about an hour. You will see all the beautiful beaches, many bird species and some rainforest vegetation.
Day trippers can hire out equipment for water activities on offer. Marineland Melanesia is an aquarium and crocodile habitat where you can view crocodile feeding shows and other sea creatures. The Green Island Resort is very popular with honeymoon couples, both Australian and international. The many activities available for resort guests include parasailing, helicopter flights, reef fishing charters, semi-submersible tour, seawalker helmet diving, scuba diving, snorkelling and much more.
Location Green Island is located 27 km off the coast from Cairns.
