GREAT BARRIER REEF
See the largest coral reef in the world!

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef in the world, stretching from Bundaberg to Far North Queensland. The reefs display an amazing diversity of coral types, colours, schools of tropical fish and other marine creatures. They can be viewed by glass bottom boat, snorkelling, diving, underwater viewing areas or by air via a scenic joy flight. Charter boats take thousands of tourists daily on reef excursions to the islands or to their pontoons at the outer reef. The major stepping off points are Cairns and Port Douglas.

The spawning of coral occurs in late spring or early summer and is an amazing sight. The Great Barrier Reef Islands are a good starting point for experiencing the reef. In the Cairns region, try a holiday or day trip to Green Island, Fitzroy Island, the Low Isles or many others. Coral can also be viewed from the Southern Reef Islands of Lady Musgrave Island, Heron Island and Lady Elliott Island. Accommodation choices both on the Islands and the mainland vary from luxury resorts to backpacker lodges and camping grounds.

Location
The Great Barrier Reef stretches along the coast of North Queensland.
