FITZROY ISLAND
Great place for bushwalking and snorkelling!

Fitzroy Island is great for bushwalking or snorkelling amongst the coral reefs. Book a day tour to the island or stay for a longer period. There are four walking trails on the Island, one of which is a steep track up to the Lighthouse where the views are magnificent. Take a walk to Nudey Beach, the only sandy beach on the Island. The other beaches are dead coral beaches. Other walks are the Secret Garden Walk through rainforest and the Summit Trail for very fit hikers.

Join the small boat which leaves from the resort to take tourists to view the coral or swim out to the reef from the beach and go snorkelling. There is abundant flora and fauna to look for including bird, reptiles and beautiful butterflies. Other activities to pursue are diving, catamarans and trips to the outer reef. There is a restaurant on the Island and other budget dining options. Accommodation is offered in up-market villa units, hostel-style bunks or the camping ground.

Location
Fitzroy Island is about 25 km from Cairns, only 5 km from the mainland.

Activities
Explore the rainforest trails, hike to the Summit, snorkel on the reef, go diving, swimming or just sunbathing.
