Queensland's largest area of subtropical rainforest!
Eungella National Park is one of Queensland's largest and has the longest continuous stretch of subtropical rainforest. Much of the park is inaccessible, although there are at least 9 walking trails for bushwalkers to enjoy. Some unique wildlife is found within the park including the Eungella Gastric Brooding Frog, the Eungella Honeyeater, the Mackay Tulip Oak and the Orange-sided Skink. More common native animals in the area are Brushtail Possums, Gliders, Platypus and Rufous Bettong. There is a viewing platform at Broken River where platypus can be seen in their natural habitat.
The walking trails will lead you to waterfalls, rock pools, running streams and superb views from the lookouts. Discover Finch Hatton Gorge where the Araluen Falls flow all year round. The town of Eungella is within the Park and has a general store, post office and gift shop. Continue on to Broken River to find a kiosk, picnic area and the National Park Information Centre. There are two camping grounds which require registration to camp, or you can stay in a mountain retreat, hotel or cabin.
Location Eungella National Park is one hours' drive west of Mackay.
