COOKTOWN
Experience beautiful natural scenery!

Visit the remote North Queensland town of Cooktown for mountain views, cascading waterfalls, majestic rivers, pristine beaches, and great fishing. The best way to get there is to fly, because both roads from the south are bumpy and dusty and the coast is for 4WD only. There is also a regular bus service. Once you have arrived, check out the six memorials to Captain Cook and also the Lighthouse. The James Cook Museum will inform you of the early history of the township. Also visit the The Cooktown Sea Museum. A walk to the top of Mt Cook will take about three hours for the round trip and is worth the effort for the superb views.

Other places to visit in town include the art gallery, the RSL club, the Bowls Club, Lions Park and Jackey Jackey Store. There are Botanic Gardens to stroll through and the Cooktown Creative Arts Association. Book a scenic river cruise on the Endeavour River. Take a day trip to Trevethan Falls, Keatings Lagoon and Archer Point. Try a rainforest retreat for your accommodation or a chalet, lodge, resort, motel, guesthouse or caravan park.

Location
Cooktown is located 326 km (by the inland road) from Cairns.

Activities
Great for 4WD touring, fishing, boating, swimming, rainforests and ocean views.
