CONWAY NATIONAL PARK
Explore a tropical rainforest or relax on a secluded beach...

The Conway National Park is a 22500 ha reserve which features tropical rainforest, secluded beaches, walking trails and superb lookouts. The tracks traverse areas of open forest, mangroves, and coastal eucalypt woodland and tropical lowland rainforest. Look for the hoop pines on the ridges and the many varieties of ferns and orchids. With a spotlight at night you can find the endangered Proserpine rock wallabies. The park is home to two of Australia's mound-building birds - the Australian brush-turkey and the orange-footed scrubfowl.

There is a picnic ground on Shute Harbour Road and bush camping at Swamp Bay. Many of the walks start from Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour. The entrances are signposted. Some of the shorter walks include the Coral Beach Walking Track (1km one way), Circuit Track (1.2km circuit), Mt Rooper Walking Track (2.4km to lookout) and Swamp Bay Walking Track (2.1km one way). For keen walkers, the Haywood Gully trail is 16 km long. The Park is accessible from your accommodation in Airlie Beach or Shute Harbour, or try bush camping.
