The historic town of Childers has many historic buildings to inspect when visiting the area. There is a Historical Complex with a sugar cane locomotive, a cottage and an old school with collections of memorabilia. The Childers Pharmaceutical Museum has many interesting displays, tourist information and sales of aboriginal crafts. Other interesting buildings are the Olde Butcher Shoppe, Childers Court House and the Palace Hotel. Childers Art gallery has a fine collection of pottery and artworks. Isis Central Mill is open for visitors from July to November.

The nearest seaside resort is at Woodgate 47 km to the east. It has a caravan park and a flat 18-km beach which is ideal for fishing and sailing. Bushwalkers will enjoy exploring the nearby Kinkuna National Park and Burrum Coast National Park. Bush camping is permitted but a 4WD vehicle is recommended. Childers offers accommodation in a number of hotels, motels, backpacker hostel and caravan parks.

Childers is located 60 km north of Maryborough and 52 km south of Bundaberg.
