CARNARVON GORGE
A lush oasis...

Carnarvon Gorge is famous for its spectacular scenery - a lush oasis set amongst the drier ranges of Carnarvon National Park. Its location is remote but it is a very popular holiday destination for bushwalkers. A feature of the gorge is the significant Aboriginal rock art in several locations. There are about 21 km of graded walking tracks and about three days are needed to explore them all. Wildlife is plentiful and platypus can be seen at dusk in Carnarvon Creek. There is an Information Centre where you can obtain maps of the walking trails.

Some of the natural features of the Gorge are the Art Gallery, Cathedral Cave, the Amphitheatre, the Moss Garden, and Wards Canyon. Guided tours are available as are scenic flights over the Gorge. Takarakka Bush Resort offers camping and caravan sites. For more upmarket accommodation, contact Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge.
