CAPRICORN COAST HINTERLAND
Discover waterfalls and Aboriginal rock art sites!

Head west of Rockhampton to explore the Capricorn Coast Hinterland. The Blackdown Tableland National Park has waterfalls, rocky plateaus and Aboriginal rock art sites. Wilderness camping is permitted at South Mimosa Creek. Visit the town of Emerald and get a fossicking license so that you can fossick for gold and gemstones in the gemfields to the west. If you are interested in touring a mine, there is the Blair Athol Mine north of Emerald in Clermont, and the Peak Downs Mine near Moranbah. The gemfield towns are Anakie, Rubyvale and Sapphire.

South-west of Rockhampton are the towns of Biloela, Moura and Thangool. The Callide Dam is popular for fishing and waterskiing. Kroombit Tops National Park, SW of Gladstone is a rugged area of rainforest, waterfalls, gorges and spectacular views. Enjoy the country hospitality of the local motels in most country towns, or try a caravan park or bush camping.
