CAPE YORK PENINSULA
Located in beautiful tropical north Queensland...

For a 4WD adventure holiday with a difference, travel the Cape York Peninsula to the tip of Queensland. Visit in the dry season between May and November because the roads are impassable after rain. Permits will be needed to camp in some areas, and these can be obtained in Cairns. Some of the townships you will pass through are Lakeland, Laura, Hann, Musgrave, Coen, the Archer River Roadhouse, Lockhart River, Weipa, Batavia Downs and Bamaga. It is important to re-fuel whenever there is an opportunity.

The journey takes you through a number of National Parks and there are opportunities to experience aboriginal culture, rainforest areas, abundant birdlife, great fishing and a tour of the mines at Weipa. There are also some spectacular waterfalls. Once at the tip, take a cruise to some of the Torres Strait Islands. Accommodation will be bush camping during the trip, with perhaps a stay in the Wilderness Lodge when you arrive.
