BUNYA MOUNTAINS
Perfect destination for bushwalking

The Bunya Mountains is a lovely area for a bushwalking holiday. The Bunya Mountains National Park is known for its bunya pines, with their distinctive, dome-shaped crowns. Aboriginal people used to gather in the area for feasts of the bunya nuts. Maps of the walking trails are available from the office of the National Parks and Wildlife Service in Dandabah. There are about 40 km of tracks, long and short, with varying degrees of difficulty. Trees are identified along the trails and you might see rednecked wallabies, swamp wallabies, pademelons and native birds.

Enjoy the numerous waterfalls and scenic lookouts. Caravans and trailers are not suitable for the area because all access roads are very steep. Dandabah is the main village and has a restaurant, a cellar door, a tea room, a craft gallery and a convenience food outlet. There is also a 100-seat conference centre and a range of cosy accommodation from luxury residences to home stays and motels. There are three campsites at Dandabah, Westcott and Burton's Well. Campsites are booked through the NPWS.
