Bundaberg is the central city of a thriving sugar cane and fruit growing area. Consequently, many backpackers pass through the area in fruit picking season. Visit the Bundaberg Rum Distillery to find out how Bundaberg Rum is made. The Botanic Gardens are the site of the Hinkler House Museum or you can visit the Bundaberg and District Historical Museum. For views over the city and surrounds, take a drive up The Hummock. The facinating Mystery Craters are located 28 km from Bundaberg and are well worth the trip to see them.
If visiting Bundaberg between November and March, take an evening trip to Mon Repos Beach to see the turtles nesting. This is a very popular attraction and tourist numbers are limited. Tickets must be pre-purchased. Bundaberg's beach area is Bargara, popular for family holidays or retirement. Lady Musgrave Barrier Reef Cruises provide day trips to Lady Musgrave Island to see the reef and do some snorkelling or scuba diving.
