WESTERN MACDONNELL RANGES
Amazing picturesque scenery…

The Western Macdonnell Ranges are magnificent for their gorges, chasms, waterholes, gaps and native flora and fauna. The famous aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira painted the landscapes of the West MacDonnells. Simpsons Gap is the most prominent gap in the West MacDonnell National Park and has a permanent pool where it is common to see the black-footed rock wallabies. Standley Chasm is an amazing natural feature which is most dramatic at noon. It is a lovely 15 min walk beside the creek to reach the chasm.

Ormiston Gorge And Pound is another area of spectacular geology, walking trails, swimming hole and native wildlife. There are camping facilities, a Visitor Centre and short and long walks. The Larapinta Trail is a long distance walking track through the spectacular West MacDonnell Ranges and across the heart of Central Australia. It runs for 250 km from Alice Springs west to Mount Sonder, Mount Razorback and beyond.
