WOLLEMI NATIONAL PARK
The largest wilderness area in NSW

Wollemi National Park is the largest wilderness area in NSW and is close enough to Sydney for a weekend away enjoying the scenic beauty and walking the trails. Travel to the town of Newnes in the Wolgan Valley and follow the self-guided tour of the mining town ruins. The Wolgan River is great for fishing. You can camp at Little Capertee camping area but facilities are limited and it is best to bring your own drinking water. The Glow Worm Tunnel is an old railway tunnel now full of glow worms and it is a facinating experience to walk through it.

Another popular camping area in the Park is Dunns Swamp, 20 km from Rylstone along Narrango Road. It is a great spot for canoeing in the Cudgegong River, camping and bushwalking. The Mountain Lagoon part of Wollemi NP has camping at Wheeney Creek and Upper Colo Reserve. Take the walks to Colo Gorge and Colo River to see one of the state's longest and most scenic gorges. It is a popular place for swimming in summer. Backpack camping is permitted throughout the park and currently bookings and permits for camping are not required. Contact the NSW NPWS for more information.
