Wisemans Ferry is a historic settlement on the Hawkesbury River at the point where there is a vehicular ferry to enable access to St Albans, the Hunter Valley and Gosford. Some historic buildings to inspect are the Wisemans Ferry Inn and the St Mary Magdalene's Church of England. The town is an access point for hikers to walk the historic 'Convict Trail Project' known as the 'Great North Road'. It has been classified by the National Trust as a permanent monument to the convicts who built it under harsh conditions.
The river is the focus of many holiday activities such as water skiing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and boating.
