Tweed Heads is a beach resort right at the border between NSW and QLD. The area is known as the Twin Towns, as it merges with the Queensland beach town of Coolangatta. Tweed Heads is on the Tweed River which is very popular for fishing, boating, canoeing, and kayaking. Go up to Point Danger, right on the border, and see the Captain Cook Memorial and Lighthouse, as well as the magnificent views of the coastline. Visit the Minjungbal Aboriginal Cultural Centre which has a bora ring, art gallery and museum. Take in the entertainment at Seagulls or Twin Towns Services Club.
Razorback Lookout at the northern edge of Tweed Heads is a high point for excellent scenic views of the district. Join a fishing charter or crabbing tour. Local beaches include Duranbah Beach for surfing and Flagstaff Beach, Fingal Beach and Doppys Beach for swimming. Nearby areas to drive to are Kingscliff, Cabarita, Hastings Point, Pottsville and Wooyung. Those interested in history will enjoy a visit to the Tweed Maritime Museum. Reasonably priced accommodation is plentiful and varied.
