Home of the Tamworth Country Music Festival


Tamworth is the 'The Country Music Capital' of Australia. Country music fans flock from all over for the annual Australasian Country Music Festival held every January. The Country Music Heritage Hall and Heritage Museum features collections of country music memorabilia. You can't miss the 12 Metre high golden guitar, or the Country Collection - wax figures of famous country stars. Other Tamworth attractions include Calala Cottage, Tamworth City Gallery, The Tapestry Gallery, Goddard's Agricultural Museum and Rex Gilroy's Butterfly World.

Visit the Hands of Fame Park or take a heritage walk around the town. Gold fossicking is popular around Barraba. Have a picnic at the Oxley Scenic Lookout or try a 3 hour walk along the Kamilaroi Walking Track. Oxley Marsupial Park is open every day and features kangaroos, emus, peacocks and other wildlife. A range of accommodation is on offer in Tamworth, from camping and hostels to motels and hotels but book early if you are planning to visit during the Festival.

Tamworth is situated 412 km north of Sydney at the intersection of the New England and Oxley Highways.
