Port Macquarie is a very large coastal town north of Sydney, the centre of a great region for beach holidays. Local beaches include Nobby's Beach, Oxley Beach, Rocky Beach, Shelly Beach, Flynn's Beach, Lighthouse Beach and Town Beach. The last three are patrolled during the high season. As well as swimming and surfing, fishing and windsurfing are very popular. Try the unique experience of a leisurely camel ride along Lighthouse beach, or enjoy the views from Tacking Point Lighthouse. Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park has some wonderful marked walking trails and Sea Acres Rainforest Centre has an elevated boardwalk to view the rainforest.

Have a look at the beautiful historic buildings around the town and also enjoy the local gardens and parklands. Book a canoe safari or river cruise, a 4WD or motorcycle tour. Visit Port Macquarie Observatory, the Maritime Museum or Billabong Koala and Aussie Wildlife Park. A number of local wineries are open to the public. There are a large number of hotels, motels and holiday apartments to choose from in Port Macquarie, as well as caravan parks, hostels and camping grounds.
