NELSON BAY
A great destination for whale & dolphin watching....

Nelson Bay is the major township servicing the smaller towns around Port Stevens. It is the home of the Port Stephens fishing fleet and a departure point for dolphin and whale watch cruises. Bottle nose dolphins can be seen all year round and whales in season. Deep sea fishing trips are also available, or you can hire a variety of boats to do your own fishing. Jet skis and water bikes can also be hired. Bushwalking is also popular in the area, including the climb of Tomaree Head (158m). Visit the Tilligerry Habitat, home to a koala population, and guided walks can be arranged.

The Nelson Bay Native Flora Garden is a lovely area for picnics, BBQs and walking trails. Nelson Head Lighthouse Museum offers a historical display, films, a tea room and gift shop. Take a 4WD tour of the Stockton Sand Dunes and slide down the dunes! Discover Gan Gan Lookout for breathtaking panoramic views, especially at dusk. The local area is well served with shops, restaurants and cafes. Accommodation is plentiful in the local motels, resorts, hotels, bed and breakfasts, holiday apartments, caravan parks and houseboats.
