Merimbula is a lovely destination for a quiet family holiday at the beach. Lake Merimbula, at the mouth of the Merimbula, has five kilometres of white sandy beaches to explore for surfing and fishing spots. Cruises are offered on the lake or you can hire a boat or canoe for a day on the water. Scuba diving is also popular. Whale watching tours are available from September to November. Take the kids to Magic Mountain Recreation Park for mini golf, water play and toboganning. Go bushwalking at Bournda National Park and look for kangaroos, wallabies and birdlife while following the trails.
Merimbula Aquarium on Merimbula Wharf has extensive displays of ocean life and hand feeding demonstrations. Wallagoot Lagoon, 15 km to the north, has safe shallow waters for family swimming, picnic spots, a boat ramp and is an ideal spot for canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing and fishing. Take a scenic joy flight to see Merimbula from the air. The town hosts a Jazz Festival in June each year. Merimbula has a good selection of motels, bed and breakfasts, guesthouses, holiday apartments, beach cabins and caravan parks.
