KEMPSEY
The interstate travel stop…

Kempsey is a good stopping point for travellers driving from Sydney to Brisbane as it is roughly half-way. There is a historical museum and tourist information centre in the Kempsey Cultural Centre, an architecturally-designed distinctive Australian building. The museum has an interesting collection of Aboriginal artefacts. Take a drive around town to discover the historic buildings such as the Court House, the old Railway Hotel with its lacework, the Post Office and All Saints Parish Church. There are three historic walks that you can follow.

The town lies along the banks of the Macleay River, said to be second fastest running river in the world. You can book an 'Osprey Cruise' along the lower reaches of the river. Kempsey is the home of the famous Akubra hat factory which is unfortunately not open for inspection. Enjoy the friendly country atmosphere while exploring the local restaurants, cafes, shops, pubs, parks and lookouts. Try a farmstay holiday, or stay in a motel, guesthouse or caravan park.

Location
Kempsey is 57 km north of Port Macquarie on the Macleay Valley Coast.
