Gateway to the Hawkesbury


Brooklyn is called 'the gateway to the Hawkesbury River' and lies between the southern bank of the Hawkesbury River and the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park. It is a quiet riverside township, ideal for a weekend of fishing, boating, swimming and canoeing. Hire a boat and explore the river and nearby islands. The Brooklyn Marina hires houseboats, tinnies and BBQ boats. Dangar Island is a pleasant place to visit and has a reserve where there are some Aboriginal rock carvings.

Oyster farming is an important local industry and you can book a tour of an oyster farm. Discover Wondabyne's Sandstone Sculptural Park, an Australian Bi Centennial project for the Arts. Take a ride on one of the ferries plying the waters of the Hawkesbury. Have a picnic or BBQ at McKell Park and do some bushwalking in the nearby nature reserves. Several tours and cruises are offered in the area. There is a caravan park at Brooklyn, or stay in a motel, apartment or houseboat.
