Tourism Employment - OVERVIEW:
Backpacker Jobs in tourism are roughly divided in three categories - travel, (airlines, agencies, coaches, etc) visitor services (theme parks, information services, events) and hospitality (in resorts, caravan parks, etc). Queensland and the Whitsundays are big on tourism especially, as are the major cities and Great Barrier Reef resort towns. Anywhere people want to go on holiday generally aren't bad places to spend a few months of your trip as backpacker you will find work but also enjoy your stay.
In this industry, your English must be fluent, and being able to speak a second language helps, as does basic knowledge of more than one language - you will find yourself interacting daily with people from all over the world.
Any specific experience, in watersports for example, can be especially useful. And, believe it or not, it does snow in Australia (Victoria and New South Wales) so you can be a chalet boy/girl as if you were in the Alps! Backpackers who are qualified ski and snowboard instructors can make good money in the resorts, which tend to go hand in hand with high numbers of young staff and lively nightlife.
