OVERVIEW:
For the right people, there are jobs available in engineering, industrial and mechanics, and some at the top end will have sponsorship opportunities.
Positions in trades like welding, assembly, sheet metal workers, machine operators, forklift drivers and warehouse pickers and packers are all quite easily available if you have the skills. This is usually pretty demanding work indoors, often in factories and warehouses. Some will need specialist qualifications and experience.
If you want to do this type of work, consider undertaking a training course, for example in Occupational Health and Safety in Construction or Forklift Truck Driving, both of which can be booked through the Traveller's Contact Points.
TASKS:
Pretty physical, lots of bending and stretching in picking and packing jobs, you may have to wear safety gear for some jobs such as welding. Generally most suited for the boys!
LOCATION:
Generally not in the CBDs, but in suburban areas and industrial estates, so having your own car can be a huge advantage.
DURATION:
if training is involved, some employers will prefer longer term commitment. Warehouse jobs and unskilled factory roles often require little training and can comprise all sorts of contracts, from one week to many months.
PAYMENT:
AU$15 to $AU25 an hour.
