OVERVIEW:
The classic nine to five office job can be ideal if you value your weekends and evenings. And working in an office can be a great way to make friends and be an enjoyable environment to work in.
By registering with employment agencies in the Central Business District, you can maximise your chances of finding temporary work in customer service or data entry or general office duties such as filing and typing. Recruitment agencies will also give you free typing and numerical tests, the results of which you can add to your CV. This sort of work is often called Temp work or temping, as the employment agencies give you 'temporary work placement' and help match you with the right job.
TASKS:
Data entry roles tend to involve sitting at a computer tapping in numbers, codes etc. Typing jobs can involve writing letters, audio dictation and the like. In customer service roles you will have to deal with enquiries and complaints, which need a cheerful manner and resilience. General office duties include filing, delivering paperwork, answering phones.
LOCATION:
Most of this work is in the Cnetral Business District of cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide etc, in large office buildings with air conditioning and a coffee machine/photocopier to gossip over.
DURATION:
Office temping, with temp job agencies can be for any length of time from a day to months. If you sign up with an agency, make sure you call in each week for positions available and to let them know you're available.
PAYMENT:
AU$15 to $AU40 an hour. Depends on your skills and the job they place you in. Tuie often as a temp you can earn more than what you would in the same postion but employed directlry by the company.
