Fundraising / Charity jobs for Backpackers
Charity Jobs, Fundraising, Promotions, Charity Awareness Work
OVERVIEW:
A great job for backpackers where you can combine the feel-good factor with a way to earn money. Backpackers are always needed to work collecting donations or selling raffle tickets for charities like the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Cancer Council, Greenpeace or Amnesty International.
You need to be able to build up rapport with a customer in a short space of time, and be confident. It's also a good idea to know the charity you represent inside out, as people will always ask questions before they part with their money. As in sales and marketing jobs, there's often a lot of travellers working in this field, so it's a great opportunity to make friends and socialise as well as gain good employment.
TASKS:
The work is usually standing in the street or shopping centres with a collecting box and/or selling wristbands, pens, raffle tickets or signing people up to monthly membership plans. Also some positions recruiting donors over the telephone.
LOCATION:
You'll often be working in CBDs and shopping centres, in some jobs you'll go door-to-door in suburban areas, so it can be a good way to get out and about and get to know a city.
DURATION:
This is one particualr kind of jobs where it can be short or longer term backpacker employment, with some people only staying for a matter of days if they cannot earn enough money. Others who can earn well from commission stay on for months.
JOB PAYMENT:
Usually works on commission if you are signing people to monthly payment plans, with bonuses on top. Collecting using collecting tins often pays a percentage of how much you have in your tin at the end of the day, which you receive in cash. So again, depends entirely on how good you are.
